Men’s track & field returns to action at Bates Invitational and Multi

LEWISTON, Maine — The Husson University men's track & field team earned a sixth-place finish at the Bates Invitational and Multi, collecting several scoring finishes on Saturday, led by a pair of top-five performances from senior Christian Zapata and a strong hurdles showing from sophomore Matthew Scamman.

Zapata paced the Eagles in the sprints, placing fifth in the 60 meters with a personal-best time (7.24) to earn four points, then adding another scoring finish in the high jump with a fourth-place mark of 1.77 meters (5' 9.75") for five points. Zapata also contributed in the 200 meters, finishing sixth (24.05) to score three points.

Husson's hurdles group delivered big points in the 60 hurdles, as Scamman finished third (9.02) to score six points and a provisional qualifying mark for the New England Championship meet, while junior Mykal Roberson added a sixth-place finish (9.45) for three points.

In the 400 meters, graduate student Richard Cromwell added a scoring performance for the Eagles with an eighth-place finish (1:03.82) to earn one point. Husson also picked up points in the field events, with Roberson placing sixth in the high jump (1.72m) for 2.5 points and sophomore Ian Cottrell placing seventh in the pole vault (2.95m).

The throws rounded out the scoring for Husson. Senior Max MacCallum placed eighth in the shot put (10.88m / 35' 8.5") to score one point, while senior Jaden Grazulis turned in a strong weight throw to finish seventh (12.26m / 40' 2.75"), earning two points.

The Eagles return to action on Jan. 31 for the Husky Invitational, hosted by the University of Southern Maine.
