Scamman, Simpson headline men’s track & field’s third-place finish at NAC championship meet

WATERVILLE, Maine — The Husson University men's track & field team finished third overall at the 2025 North Atlantic Conference Championship meet on Saturday, while freshman Matthew Scamman and junior Colin Simpson each tallied individual championships. 

The Eagles finished the two-day meet third overall behind the University of Maine at Farmington who won the meet with 227 points, Thomas College who finished as the runner up with 149 points, while Husson tallied 89 points, beating the University of Maine at Presque Isle (62), Vermont State University Johnson (38) and Lesley University (20). 

Sophomore Carmy Kaniki set a new PR in the preliminary race of the 100 meters at 11.74 before finishing sixth overall in the finals with a time of 13.22. 

Scamman ran to a fourth-place performance in the 200, clocking a 24.03, while Kaniki clocked a 55.46 in the 400 to finish fourth.
 
Sophomore Micah Bryan added an eighth-place finish in the 800 meters, finishing with a time of 2:17.07, while senior David Hileman finished seventh in the 1,500 meters at 4:30.97 and fellow senior Jeremy Stone clocked a 5:03.88 to finish ninth. 

Hileman ran to a runner-up finish in the 5,000 meters, posting a mark of 16:17.75, while Scamman finished runner up in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.74 and sophomore Mykal Roberson clocked an 18.66 to finish third. 

Scamman added to in impressive championship day performance by winning the 400-meter hurdles by .11 seconds with a time of 1:02.49, while freshman Shane Conti finished fourth at 106.65 and sophomore Thomas Hinton posted a 1:08.51 to finish seventh. 

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Stone finished fourth with a mark of 11:15.17 and Bryan posted a 11:33.78 to finish fifth. 

Husson's 4x400-meter relay team of senior Richard Cromwell, Bryan, Hinton and Kaniki finished fifth with a time of 3:58.69.

Roberson cleared 1.80 meters in the high jump to finish fourth in the event, while freshman Ian Cottrell set a new PR in the pole vault at 2.90 meters to finish seventh. 

Simpson cleared 6.31 meters in the long jump to finish fourth, while Scamman added another top-10 performance with a sixth-place distance of 6.06 meters and Kaniki finished ninth with a 5.88-meter jump. 

Simpson capped off his day by winning the conference title in the triple jump, jumping 12.45 meters, while sophomore Gage Moody cleared 11.08 meters to finish eighth. 

Junior Max MacCallum threw 9.94 meters in the shot put to finish seventh, while fellow junior Jaden Grazulis finished ninth at 9.63 meters. 

Grazulis finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 34.01 meters, while MacCallum added a seventh-place performance at 27.30 meters. 

In the hammer, Grazulis added back-to-back fourth-place finishes, recording a new PR throw of 36.83.

Junior Kyle Hofmann threw 36.92 meters in the javelin to finish third overall, while Grazulis finished fifth at 33.74 meters and Stone tallied a sixth-place throw of 33.58 meters. 

The Eagles close out the 2025 outdoor season at the New England Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in New London, Conn. on May 2 and 3.
