Moczygemba resigns as head track & field, cross country coach

BANGOR, Maine – Husson University head men's and women's track & field and cross country coach Mitch Moczygemba announced his resignation from the university on Friday to pursue another coaching opportunity.

"It's been an honor to work at Husson University," said Moczygemba. "I am grateful for the opportunity and experiences Husson University athletics has provided me. I would like to thank all of the athletes I have had the pleasure of working with, the coaches I consider my friends and colleagues, and the greater Husson community for their support over the years. Husson truly is a special place and I will always look back on my time at Husson fondly. Go Eagles!"

Moczygemba took over the reigns of both the track & field and cross country programs at Husson in November of last year after working under his predecessor, Kate Goupee, since 2021.

In his inaugural season as head coach, Moczygemba led both the men's and women's track & field programs to third place finishes at the North Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship, in addition to seeing two men's individual champions, four women's individual champions and one women's relay champion.

Moczygemba led nine all-conference honorees on the women's side of track & field, in addition to four on the men's side, while the women's program set three new program records last year in Moczygemba's first year.

"Mitch has been an integral part of our athletics department, and we are grateful for the dedication, leadership, and professionalism he brought to our cross country and track & field programs," said Executive Director of Athletics Christopher Parsons. "While we will certainly miss his presence, we fully support his decision to pursue another coaching opportunity and wish him continued success in the next chapter of his career."

In his first season as head coach of the cross country teams, Moczygemba led the women's team to a runner-up finish at the NAC championship, including a second-place finish individually from Grace Bedore, while also guiding freshman Lucinda Carroll to a spot on the all-conference squad.

As an assistant coach, Moczygemba helped both the women's track & field and cross country programs to back-to-back NAC titles in 2022 and 2023.
