ORONO, Maine – The Husson University men's track & field team competed in the Black Bear Invitational on Friday at the New Balance Field House in Orono on the campus of the University of Maine.
Husson swept the top three finishing positions in the 200 meters, as freshman Wade Desrosiers led the way with a winning time of 25.24 seconds, while classmates Gabriel Fairbrother and Oden Schlager followed close behind in 26.24 and 26.35, respectively.
In the 300 meters, senior Christian Zapata posted a personal-best to place sixth overall in 38.14 seconds, while sophomore Matthew Scamman followed with a ninth-place finish in 38.57.
Middle-distance efforts were highlighted by graduate student Richard Cromwell's fourth-place finish in the 600 meters, as the senior crossed the line in 1:37.66. Juniors Thomas Hinton and Micah Bryan added depth for Husson in the same event, finishing fifth and sixth, respectively. In the mile, junior Mykal Roberson delivered a strong performance, placing ninth overall in 4:23.33.
Husson's hurdlers made an impact in the 60-meter hurdles, with Roberson finishing fourth in 9.44 seconds and Scamman close behind in fifth at 9.45.
The Eagles also found success in the relays, as the Husson 4x200 relay team of freshman Jayden Smith, Schlager, Scamman, and Desrosiers placed third with a time of 1:42.18. In the distance medley relay, the Husson quartet of Cromwell, Bryan, Hinton, and freshman Jake Violette finished fourth overall.
Field events were led by Zapata's third-place finish in the high jump after clearing 1.75 meters. Roberson added a fourth-place finish in the same event. In the horizontal jumps, Scamman placed fifth in the long jump with a mark of 5.80 meters, while Roberson earned a third-place finish in the triple jump at 12.02 meters, followed by junior Gage Moody in fourth.
Husson's throwers closed out the meet with strong efforts, as freshman Dyllan Maple placed third in the shot put with a throw of 11.16 meters. Senior Jaden Grazulis added a fourth-place finish, and the senior also earned a third-place result in the weight throw with a mark of 11.75 meters. Junior Kyle Hofmann added a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a personal-best distance of 9.81 meters.
The Eagles will look to build on Friday's performance in the spring semester, as the indoor season resumes on Jan. 16 and 17 with the Bates College Invitational and Multi at Merrill Gymnasium.
