BEVERLY, Mass. – The Conference of New England unveiled its postseason awards for football on Wednesday and Husson University football earned six all-conference honors on defense.
Senior Ryan Banister earned first team all-conference honors at linebacker after his final season in the green and gold. Banister totaled 73 total tackles, ranking ninth in the CNE, including 31 solo stops, which was good for sixth in the league, in addition to a co-league high 10 tackles for loss, including three sacks, which was tied for sixth in the conference. Banister also tallied one forced fumble, one quarterback hurry and one pass breakup in his senior season.
Junior Jahmye Tyson picked up his second-consecutive all-conference nod, as a first team defensive lineman. Tyson recorded 29 total tackles, including seven solo stops, while also adding 5.5 tackles for loss, including 2.5 sacks. The third-year defender also contributed a co-league high two forced fumbles and two quarterback hurries for Husson.
Sophomore Kane Smith garnered a spot on the second team all-conference as a defensive back for the Eagles. Smith posted 16 total tackles in his second year with the program, including 10 solo stops, in addition to 1.5 tackles for loss. Additionally, Smith totaled two interceptions, which was good for tied for sixth in the conference, while also adding four pass breakups and one forced fumble.
Sophomore JT Wright picked up a second team nod as a linebacker after a standout season for Husson. Wright finished with a team-high 84 tackles, which was good for second in the CNE, including 28 solo stops and a league-high 56 assisted tackles. Wright recorded six tackles for loss, including 0.5 sacks, in addition to tallying a co-league high two fumble recoveries, one interception and one pass breakup.
Sophomore Brayden Trombly was named to the all-conference third team as a defensive back. The 2024 CNE Rookie of the Year, Trombly totaled 49 tackles, including 30 solo tackles, which was good for second on the Eagles and seventh in the conference. Trombly also tallied 2.5 tackles for loss, in addition to a team-high three interceptions, which was also good for a third-place tie in the conference. The second-year defensive-back also posted two pass breakups and one fumble recovery.
Graduate student James Boyd picked up the final all-conference spot for the Eagles as a third team defensive lineman. Boyd concluded his final year with the Eagles with 37 total tackles, including 11 solo stops. Boyd contributed seven tackles for loss, including two sacks, while also adding a quarterback hurry. Additionally, Boyd was named to the CNE Community Service Team.
