BANGOR, Maine — Husson University announced the promotion of Mitch Moczygemba to interim cross country and track & field head coach on Tuesday.
"I am honored and excited to step into the role of interim head track and field and cross country coach here at Husson University," said Moczygemba. "Working at Husson over the last few seasons has been an absolute blessing and I am excited to continue to serve our athletes in this new role. I want to thank our student-athletes, my colleagues and the Husson community for their continued support and belief in our program. Lastly, I want to thank Kate Goupee for her leadership, always supporting me personally and professionally and for providing me with the opportunity of coaching with her over the last few years."
Moczygemba has served as an assistant coach for the Eagles since January of 2022 and helped guide Husson to back-to-back North Atlantic Conference Championships in women's cross country in 2022 and 2023 and two-straight NAC women's outdoor track & field conference championships in 2022 and 2023.
Moczygemba helped the men's outdoor track & field team finish runner-up in the NAC in 2022 and coached numerous all-conference athletes during his time with the Eagles.
"We are excited that Mitch has welcomed the opportunity to lead our track and field program," said Director of Athletics John Sutyak. "Mitch brings great experience to this role as a coach and understands the Husson student-athlete and our track and field programs. I am excited to work with him in his leadership of our programs."
Prior to Husson, Moczygemba worked as a graduate assistant throws coach at Hardin-Simmons University from 2020-21 and competed as a two-year member of the Nova Southeastern University track & field program.
At Nova Southeastern, Moczygemba earned the 2019-20 Nova Southeastern University Male Scholar Athlete of the Year and was selected to the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Team twice and was a throws captain in 2019-20.
He earned his Bachelors of Science in business administration in sport and recreation management from Nova Southeastern in 2020 and a Masters of Business Administration from Hardin-Simmons in 2021.
The Medford, Oregon native takes over a track & field program that has won seven conference championships between the men's and women's programs and five conference championships between the men's and women's cross country programs.
