Ramsey resigns as head coach of softball and field hockey

| By:

BANGOR, Maine – Husson University softball and field hockey coach Diann Ramsey announced on Thursday she is resigning from both positions to take the head softball coach opening at Amherst College.

"Leaving Husson is a difficult decision for me, as the Husson community has been a family to me for a very long time," Ramsey said. "I will forever be grateful for the memories that I have made here and appreciate the support the university, the athletic department, and the community have given me over the years. I'd like to especially thank all of the players, assistant coaches and support staff that have shared the last five years with me for making my time here so special. I would also like to thank the O'Keefe's for their continued support for the softball program. I wish nothing but the best for everyone at Husson and will truly miss it."

Along with her coaching duties, Ramsey also served as Husson's director of compliance. Ramsey was a three-year letter winner as an infielder on the Husson softball team from 2009-11 and a two-year letter winner as a defender on the Eagles' field hockey team from 2009-10. She earned a bachelor of science in psychology and a master's of science in psychology with an emphasis in sport psychology and exercise science from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2014.

In her five years as the Eagles softball coach, Ramsey led the team to a 116-45-1 record, including a 46-2 mark in North Atlantic Conference play, while leading the team to four conference championships, in addition to earning coach of the year honors in 2023. Ramsey coached four conference pitcher of the year selections, two conference rookie of the year honorees, one conference player of the year, one National Fastpitch Coaches Association DIII All-American, and one NFCA DIII National freshman of the year during her time at Husson, in addition to numerous all-academic honors.

Ramsey served as the Husson field hockey coach for three seasons and earned a 21-12 mark, including a 12-2 record in New England Collegiate Conference games. The Eagles were led to two NECC Championships under the direction of Ramsey, with Ramsey being named conference coach of the year in 2022. In her three seasons as head coach, Ramsey saw one of her players earn conference player of the year, conference rookie of the year, and conference defender of the year, in addition to numerous academic accolades.

"We are sad that Coach Ramsey will be leaving Husson for an outstanding new opportunity," former Husson Director of Athletics Frank Pergolizzi said. "She has served Husson well in many different capacities and we wish her the very best. Personally I will miss her very much. I now have two teams to cheer for and expect both of them to do very well.
