Box Score BANGOR, Maine - Graduate student Jen Jones pitched a four hitter as the Husson University softball team earned a spot in the North Atlantic Conference Championship Day thanks to a 6-3 victory over SUNY Cobleskill at O'Keefe Field on Saturday afternoon.
Offense was limited until the fourth inning as the Eagles (25-9) scored four runs. Senior Meagan Gosselin on second base was able to score the first run of the game after a wild pitch from The Fighting Tigers (15-14). With two runners on, senior Madelyn Fowler launched one off the wall in center field to score two runs on a triple. Fowler would score on the next play via wild pitch.
The lead would remain 4-0 until the sixth as the Eagles added a couple of insurance runs. Freshman Juila Gregoire capitalized on a wild pitch then sophomore Teagan Blackie hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Gosselin.
The Fighting Tigers rallied by scoring three runs in the seventh but it wasn't enough as Husson advanced to Sunday.
Graduate student Jen Jones began the contest throwing an immaculate inning in the first inning as she struck out nine.
The softball team will take on familiar foe Thomas College on Sunday at noon for the NAC championship. If the Eagles win then they claim their fourth straight title but if the Terriers win then a winner-takes-all game will be played thirty minutes after the first game.
