Box Score BANGOR, Maine - Sophomore Kenzie Dore with a walk-off homer as junior McKenna Smith struck out 17 en route to the Husson University softball team opening up the North Atlantic Conference tournament with a 3-2 victory over Thomas College in eight innings.
Thomas (16-16) opened the scoring in the first inning and they held the lead until the fifth inning when sophomore Teagan Blackie crushed her first collegiate homer for the Eagles (24-9) to tie the game at one as and after a combined 11 hits; the game went to extras.
An error scored the second run of the contest for the Terriers as the Eagles trailed 2-1 in the bottom of the eight. With senior Katie Windsor on second and one out; Dore hammered a rocket over the scoreboard to send the Eagles into the winner's bracket of the tournament.
In the circle, Smith recorded the second most strikeouts in a game by an Eagles pitcher as she retired 50% of the Terriers via three strikes.
The Eagles will be back in action tomorrow at O'Keefe Field when they face the winner of SUNY Cobleskill vs. Cazenovia. The game will take place at 1:00 p.m. with a birth to championship day on the line.
