Box Score 2 BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University softball team opened North Atlantic Conference action on Saturday afternoon as they picked up a pair of run-rule victories over Northern Vermont-Lyndon. Husson (12-6) won both contests over the Hornets (5-9) by the final score of 8-0 in five innings.
Prior to the action, the softball team celebrated the careers of their five seniors; Meagan Gosselin, Madelyn Fowler, Whitney Bess, Katie Windsor and Erin Bonenfant.
Gosselin started the scoring in the first inning as she delivered a single to left field to score sophomore Kenzie Dore. The next inning saw Windsor extend the lead with a two run RBI single to left center field as junior Katie Raymond and Fowler scored.
In the third inning, the Eagles inched closer to the run-rule victory as sophomore Teagan Blackie singled through the left as Gosselin scored on the play via an error then Blackie scored later in the inning on a sacrifice fly from Fowler.
The Eagles clinched the run-rule victory in the fourth as Gosselin doubled to left field to score two runs then Blackie drove in Gosselin and freshman Tatyanna Biamby shut the door in the fifth for NVU-Lyndon.
Junior McKenna Smith started the contest and she struck out all nine batters she faced. Biamby, in relief, struck out four of the seven batters she faced.
In game two, the Eagles were held off the scoreboard in the first inning but they exploded for five runs in the second. Like in game one, Windsor with a single to score two followed by a RBI triple by Dore and capped off by Bess driving Dore in on a single.
With a 5-0 lead, Husson added two runs in the third inning highlighted by a first collegiate RBI by freshman Jess Pomerleau on an infield single. Freshman Kiara McLeod cam into the contest to pinch hit in the fifth inning and she also drove home her first collegiate run on a single as the Eagles led, 8-0. Junior Jill Bisson closed out the game in the fifth inning as the Eagles take the sweep.
Graduate student Jen Jones made her first appearance of the season as she pitched four inning while striking out seven.
It's a quick turnaround for the softball team as they are back to work tomorrow as they host Northern Vermont-Johnson for a conference doubleheader starting at noon at O'Keefe Field.
