Box Score 2 WATERVILLE, Maine - The Husson University softball team split a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader with the Terriers of Thomas College on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles won game one, 2-0, before dropping game two, 1-0, in nine innings.
The Eagles (21-7, 8-1 NAC) scored a run in the third and fourth inning as that was all the Eagles needed as junior McKenna Smith threw a one-hitter for the 2-0 victory in game one.
Senior Katie Windsor scored the first run of the contest thanks to a Terriers (9-15, 2-2 NAC) error. In the fourth inning, junior Katie Raymond doubled up the middle to score sophomore Jess Pomerleau for the second run of the contest. Smith, in the circle, struck out 11 as she broke the program record for most strikeouts in a season.
Neither team could get anything going on the offense side until the ninth inning as the Terriers walked it off for the 1-0 victory. Junior Jill Bisson started in the circle for the Eagles as she allowed four hits in four-plus innings. Smith, in relief, allowed two hits in four-plus innings as she struck out six.
The softball team returns to the diamond for their final non-conference doubleheader as they take on the Bowdoin Polar Bears at the Pickard Softball Diamond with game one starting at 1 p.m.
