Softball splits doubleheader with Colby College

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Husson University women's softball team played to a doubleheader split on Saturday afternoon against Colby College. The Eagles (8-6) won game one by a score of 5-2, while the Mules (9-8) got revenge in the second game, as they won 8-0.

In game one of the afternoon, the Eagles started quickly as senior Meagan Gosselin singled home sophomore Kenzie Dore with two outs in the top half of the first inning to give Husson the lead.

Husson added two more to their total in the following inning as junior McKenna Smith would single home senior Madelyn Fowler. Smith would score later in the inning on an RBI groundout from senior Katie Windsor

Smart baserunning in the third inning allowed the Eagles to post two more in the score column. Senior Whitney Bess and sophomore Jess Pomerleau both scored on passed balls to give Husson a 5-0 lead after three innings.

The Mules would attempt to get back in the game in the home half of the inning as they countered with two runs but the game would remain scoreless for the final four innings to give Husson the win.

Smith earned the win in the circle for the Eagles as she went the distance, pitching seven innings and giving up three hits and two earned runs, while striking out seven Colby batters. Offensively, sophomore Teagan Blackie had three hits in three at-bats, including a double in the fourth inning.

In game two, Colby scored eight runs in six innings to earn the win in the finale of the day.

The softball team finally gets to play at home as they will  host Saint Joseph's College in a doubleheader on Wednesday. Game one's first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
