Box Score 2 BIDDEFORD, Maine - The Husson University softball team traveled to southern Maine and picked up a non-conference sweep over the University of New England Nor'Easters on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles (7-5) won game one, 4-0, before winning game two, 6-3, over UNE (5-9).
The Eagles scored all the offense they needed in the first inning as junior McKenna Smith threw a two hitter with 13 strikeouts.
Freshman Brianne McCabe singled through the left side of the infield to score senior Meagan Gosselin then McCabe scored when senior Whitney Bess doubled to right center field. Senior Katie Windsor finished the scoring with a single to center field as she scored senior Madelyn Fowler and Bess.
In game two, McCabe led things off for the Eagles with a single to center field to score Bess for the opening run but the Nor'Easters would respond in the bottom half of the inning with a wild pitch.
UNE took a lead in the second inning but the Eagles responded with three runs in the next half inning. RBI single by Bess tied the game then an UNE error followed by a RBI bunt by Fowler gave the Eagles a 4-2 lead.
UNE in the fourth inning added a third run but Fowler ripped a triple to right field to score sophomore Kenzie Dore then senior Eric Bonenfant drove home Fowler to cap off the scoring in the game two victory.
Junior Jill Bisson started the second game for the Eagles allowing three runs in four innings of work before Smith returned to the circle as she struck out five and didn't allow a hit.
The softball team will hit the road one more time before their home opener as next Saturday they travel to Colby College for a non-conference doubleheader starting at noon in Waterville.
