CLERMONT, Fla. — Junior McKenna Smith dominated on the mound in Husson University softball's 2-0 win over Emmanuel College (Mass.) on Friday before driving the final game of its spring Florida trip to UMass Dartmouth 5-1.

Husson (5-5) took a 1-0 advantage in the fourth inning on Friday when sophomore Kenzie Dore doubled to left center scoring senior Meagan Gosselin. 

The Eagles would add an insurance run in the seventh when Dore scored following an Emmanuel (1-5) error, but that would be all the run support Smith would need as she allowed only three hits in the game while striking out a season-high 12 batters. 

Dore finished 3-3 at the dish while sophomore Katie Raymond, Gosselin and Smith all added hits. 

In the spring trip finally, Husson battled UMass Dartmouth (8-1) scoreless through the opening three innings, but the Corsairs broke the tie with two runs in the fourth. 

UMass Dartmouth added a run in the sixth inning, however Husson answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning pulling within 3-1, but a two-run homerun by the Corsairs in the seventh helped preserve the 5-1 win. 

Gosselin, along with senior Whitney Bess and Freshman Tatyanna Biamby — who got the start on the mound — all tallied hits for the Eagles. 

Husson will now return back to Maine and turn its attention to the University of New England on Mar. 26.
