Men's soccer claims NAC shutout victory over NVU-Johnson

| By:
Box Score JOHNSON, Vt. - The Husson University men's soccer recorded a 2-0 clean sheet victory over Northern Vermont-Johnson on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference action.

The Eagles (8-3-2, 5-0-1 NAC) dominated the match, enjoying the majority of possession throughout the match. The stubborn Badgers' (2-6-2, 1-4-1 NAC) defense compacted well, making it difficult for the Eagles offense to break down. The Eagles started out on the front foot, testing the Johnson backline with a number of shots.

The opening goal came in the 15th minute from a set piece play. Freshman, Miguel Morales, stood over the ball, just outside the top of the penalty box. His great vision slipped in freshman Arik Weinstein down the left of the wall, who fizzed the ball across the face of the Badgers goal, which was turned in by senior Alex Bryant inside the goalmouth.

Shots continued to come for the Eagles but they had to be patient for the insurance goal, which came in the 89th minute. Senior Jarod Bolton laid the ball off to Tyler Welch who shimmied the ball onto his left leg, before curling it into the top corner from the top of the penalty box.

"It wasn't one of our best performances today," said head coach Gavin Penny. "We had the majority of possession but we were too sluggish with the ball and not assertive enough. I wanted to see more penetration through the layers, particularly in the final third. We improved some in the second half, but Johnson have improved since last year and made it difficult for us. We struggled to break down their compactness. We'll take the win, it's three more points, and I am hoping we can perform better tomorrow."

The roadtrip ends tomorrow for the men's soccer team as they take on SUNY Canton for a NAC contest that is set to take place at 11:00 a.m.
