Box Score BANGOR, Maine - Making it all the way to the top-sixteen teams in the nation, the Husson University softball team did not go out quietly. Led by the Bangor, Maine Regional Most Outstanding Player, Jen Jones, the Eagles took Tufts University to the final two outs of the game with a 0-0 deadlock heading into the bottom of the 7th. With one out, the Jumbos found home to end the game, 1-0, as the Tufts softball team will advance to the 2021 NCAA Division III Softball Championship in Salem, Va.
Both teams displayed impeccable defense and pitching to hold the game scoreless into the seventh inning. Jones opened up with four-straight strikeouts as she made her 101st career appearance in the circle for the Eagles. Husson was able to escape the third inning, leaving two Jumbos stranded as play continued with quick 1-2-3 innings. Graduate student Morgan Coleman pitched in some incredible diving plays at first to help keep the Jumbos scoreless.
Whitney Bess had the biggest chance of the afternoon offensively for the Eagles with the lone hit as she launched the ball to deep right center field for a double.
The Eagles wrapped up the 2021 NCAA DIII Softball Regional Round of the Championship with a 2-2 record, and a 29-3 overall record on the season.
