Box Score 2 BANGOR, Maine - Husson University pitchers Jen Jones and Sydney Ames held the Owls to just two runs on Sunday as the Husson softball team improved to 11-1 in a doubleheader sweep against the University of Maine-Presque Isle at O'Keefe Field on Saturday.
GAME ONE: Husson 2, UMPI 1
The Eagles were held scoreless on just two hits through the first four innings, until Madelyn Fowler hit a deep, one-out triple to center in the bottom of the fifth. Two batters later, Katie Raymond's RBI single to left brought Fowler across the plate for a 1-0 Husson lead.
Husson pitcher Jen Jones and the Husson defense were holding UMPI hitless heading into the bottom of the seventh, but it was broken up on Sarah Duncklee's single to left. Duncklee moved to second on a walk to Jordan Hansen, and the Owls loaded the bases when Halle Garner was hit by a pitch. After Jones recorded a strikeout to bring the Eagles one out away from ending the game, a pitch just high out of reach of the catcher sent Duncklee sliding in to home safely to tie the score at 1-1.
The Eagles rallied in the bottom of the seventh. Fowler singled to lead off the big finale, and took second on Katie Raymond's walk. Katie Windsor laid down a sacrifice bunt in an attempt to move the runners but the throw to first got away, and Fowler came all the way home to score the winning run on the throwing error, giving Husson their 10th victory of the season, 2-1.
