Husson Softball Remains Undefeated in NAC Action, 16-0, with Sweep of Terriers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WATERVILLE, Maine - Jen Jones led the Eagles from the circle and the batter's box in Game 1, followed by some timely Eagle hits in a sixth inning rally in Game 2 for a sweep of Thomas College in Waterville on Tuesday. Following the wins today, the 2021 Husson softball team became the first team in program history to ever achieve 15-straight wins, while picking up their 16th consecutive victory in Game 2 of the doubleheader sweep.

GAME ONE: HUSSON 9, THOMAS 1

After being held scoreless in the first two innings, the Eagles put three runs on the board in the top of the third. Whitney Bess reached on a fielding error, and advanced to second on Kenzie Dore's bloop single to right. With two on and two out, Jen Jones helped her own cause by blasting her first home run of the season over the right field fence to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead.

Husson tacked on three more runs in the fourth. Katie Raymond got the inning started when she reached on an error at first base. Katie Windsor followed with a double down the right field line, putting runners at second and third for Sydney Ames. Her grounder went off the pitcher's glove, and Raymond scored on an error, putting Husson up 4-0. After Windsor scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-0, Dore's RBI infield single plated Ames from third to extend the Eagle's lead to 6-0.

Thomas got a run in the fifth, but the Eagles answered with one of their own in the sixth on Bess' triple to right, and Dore's sac fly to center. Husson added two more runs in the seventh on the way to a 9-1 win.

IN THE CIRCLE

Husson responded with a run in the fifth when Teagan Blackie tripled to right and scored on Katie Raymond's RBI double, to cut the Terrier lead to 2-1.

In the top of the sixth, Whitney Bess singled to lead off, and came all the way around to score on Kenzie Dore's double to straightaway centerfield. Bess was called safe on a close play at the plate, sliding in head first to beat the throw, and tying the score at 2-2. Morgan Coleman followed with an RBI single just past the diving shortstop into centerfield, bringing in Dore from second, and giving the Eagles their first lead of the game, 3-2.

Husson added an insurance run in the seventh. Sydney Ames drew a one out walk, and took second on Bess' groundout. Dore followed with her second RBI double in as many innings, this time to right field, scoring Ames and propelling the Eagles to a tough 4-2 win. The win moved the Eagles record to 23-1 on the year.
