Power Pitching and Power Hitting Lead Eagles to Doubleheader Sweep over UMaine-Farmington on Senior Day

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BANGOR, Maine -  Jen Jones and Sydney Ames were dominant in the circle, while Morgan Coleman and Kenzie Dore provided plenty of pop at the plate, as Husson University cruised to a pair of wins over the University of Maine-Farmington at O'Keefe Field on Sunday.

GAME ONE: Husson 8, UMaine-Farmington 0 (5-inning)

The Eagles wasted no time putting runs on the board in the bottom of the first. Sydney Ames led off the inning with a double to the gap in right centerfield, and moved over to second on a Whitney Bess sacrifice bunt. Kenzie Dore's hard hit RBI single through the right side brought in Ames, with Dore advancing to second on the play, and Husson had a quick 1-0 lead. Dore's heads up baserunning notched the Eagles another run, as she scored on a throwing error on Morgan Coleman's grounder to third, putting Husson up 2-0 after one.

In the third, Coleman drilled her first home run of the season over the left field fence, extending Husson's lead to 3-0. Jen Jones followed with a double to left center, took third on a passed ball, and scored on a sac fly by Madelyn Fowler to make it 4-0 Eagles.

In the fourth, Sydney Ames' fly ball to right was deep enough to allow Katie Raymond to tag up and score, putting another run on the board and pushing the lead Eagles to 5-0.

Husson then put the game away in the fifth. Coleman hit her second home run of the day to lead off the bottom of the inning, taking the first pitch deep over the centerfield fence. Coleman's second homer of the game was also the ninth of her career and tied the school record of two homers in a single game, while also giving the Eagles a 6-0 edge. The Eagles weren't done. Erin Bonenfant doubled to right, and was followed by an infield single from Raymond. Katie Windsor then went opposite field with an RBI single to right to score Bonenfant, and Ames ended the game with an RBI double to right, bringing Raymond home and giving the Eagles the 8-0 win in five innings.

  • Husson senior Jen Jones (7-0) was dominant once again, pitching a two-hit shutout over five innings with 10 strikeouts. It's the second time this season Jones has reached double digit strikeouts in a single game, and the 17 double-digit strikeout game of her career.

  • Broghan Gagnon (1-6) took the loss for the Beavers, giving up eight runs (seven earned) on 14 hits in four and two-thirds innings.

GAME TWO: Husson 10, UMF 0

The Eagles broke a scoreless tie by putting three runs on the board in the third. Katie Windsor drew a leadoff walk and immediately stole second. Sydney Ames then singled up the middle, bringing in Windsor for the first run of the game. After Whitney Bess singled to left to put runners on first and second, Kenzie Dore made the most of the opportunity with an RBI single to center, scoring Ames and putting the Eagles up 2-0. Morgan Coleman's fielder's choice brought home Bess to give the Eagles a 3-0 advantage at the end of three innings.

The Eagles broke the game open in the fourth. Katie Raymond got the bottom of the inning started with a double to left center, and crossed the plate on Ames' first-pitch RBI double to left, pushing the Eagles lead to 4-0. Dore followed with a two-run homer deep over the centerfield fence, her second of the season, and the Eagles went up 6-0. Coleman kept things going with a single through the left side, and after she was pinch-run for by Libby Hewes, Jen Jones blasted a double to the gap in left center, scoring Hewes from first for a 7-0 Husson lead. Madelyn Fowler's single up the middle plated Jones to push the lead to 8-0. Husson added two more runs on Windsor's bases-loaded single before the inning was over, and Sydney Ames set the Beavers down in order in the top of the fifth to secure the 10-0 win.
