Box Score 2 BANGOR, Maine- The Husson University softball team stayed undefeated with a sweep of the University of Maine-Presque Isle in a doubleheader at home on Thursday. Senior Jen Jones hit a milestone in game one of the afternoon as she became the all-time career leader in strikeouts with her sixth strikeout of the game and 501st in her career as an Eagle.
GAME ONE: Husson 11, UMPI 3 (6 innings)
Husson broke open a scoreless game in the bottom of the fourth with five runs on four hits, with some help from a couple fielding errors. Kenzie Dore singled through the left side, took third on a single by Morgan Coleman, then scored on Madelyn Fowler's RBI single. After Erin Bonenfant reached on a fielder's choice, Whitney Bess followed up with one of her own, with Bonenfant safe at second. That loaded the bases for the Eagles, as Fowler advanced to third on the play. Katie Raymond reached first as the bases cleared for Husson, giving the Eagles a 4-0 lead. Raymond would take third on a passed ball, and scored on a Sydney Ames' RBI single to center, making it 5-0 Husson.
The Owls fought back in the top of the fifth. After Husson pitcher Jen Jones recorded two quick outs to start the inning, Marissa Valdivia Reagle singled, and Jordan Hansen walked to get on base. Both advanced on a passed ball, and then scored on Sarah Duncklee's double down the left field line. Melanee Terry's RBI single up the middle brought in Duncklee to pull the Owls within two runs at 5-3.
The Eagles slammed the door shut in the bottom of the 6th. Bess was hit by a pitch, and Raymond walked to start the inning. Then Ames doubled to right center, scoring Bess and sending Raymond to third. Olivia McCarty singled through the right side, bringing in Raymond and Ames, making it 8-3 Eagles. A Kenzie Dore single to right sent McCarty to third, and she scored on Jones' groundout to second to give Husson a 9-3 lead. Fowler then doubled down the left field line to bring in Dore, and after a throwing error allowed Fowler to advance to third, Bonenefant's double to right center ended the game. Fowler crossed the plate for the final run in the 11-3 win.

Jones (3-0) stayed undefeated on the year, going six innings, and giving up three runs on six hits while striking out seven. She walked just one.

For the Owls, Valdivia (L, 0-1) took the loss in her season debut. She allowed five runs (one earned) on six hits, with two strikeouts.

Jordan Hansen gave up two runs on a hit and two walks in one inning pitched.

Olivia Riitano pitched two-thirds of an inning, closing out game one of the afternoon for the Owls.
OFF THE BAT

Madelyn Fowler was dominant at the plate for Husson. She went 4-for-4 with a double, two RBI and also scored two runs, raising her batting average to .500 on the season.

Sydney Ames went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored.

In Olivia McCarty's one appearance at the plate, she batted in two runs while scoring herself.
GAME TWO: Husson 10, UMPI 4 (5 innings)
The Owls came out red hot in the second game of the double header, tacking on an early four runs in the top of the first.
Husson fought back in the bottom half of the inning. Sydney Ames and Whitney Bess each singled to start the inning, and advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch. Kenzie Dore singled in Ames for Husson's first run of the game. After Dore stole second, Coleman hit a deep drive off the fence in left field, scoring Bess and Dore, and cutting the Owls lead to 4-3. Coleman advanced to third on a Jones groundout. McCarty blooped a single to center, scoring Coleman and tying the score at 4-4 after one.
The Eagles took their first lead of the game with two more runs in the third. Fowler walked and took third when Katie Raymond reached on a throwing error to first. She then stole second to put two runners in scoring position. Fowler scored on a wild pitch moving Raymond to third, as she was brought in by Dore's single to left. It was Dore's second RBI of the game, as she helped bring the score to 6-4 Husson after three.
The Eagles would have a huge fourth inning, tacking on four more runs. Jones doubled to deep center, McCarty walked and Bisson singled to load the bases. Husson then got an RBI single from Fowler, and RBI ground outs from Raymond and Ames to give the Eagles a 9-4 lead. Fowler would eventually score on a double to right center by Bess before the inning was over to make it 10-4, Husson, at the end of four.
The game was called due to darkness, and Husson moved to 6-0 on the season with the win.

Ames (3-0) picked up her third win of the year. She pitched five innings, giving up four runs on eight hits, while striking out three.

Jordan Hansen started the game for the Owls and helped get the first two outs of the inning before switching positions with the Owls' center fielder, Valdivia.

Valdivia (0-2) gave up five earned runs on six hits in three innings of work, while also striking out a pair of batters.
OFF THE BAT

Kenzie Dore's strong start to her Husson career continues. She went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while also scoring a run. Her .550 batting average through six games is a team best, and she's tied for the team lead in RBI with eight on the season.

Morgan Coleman went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored.

Whitney Bess had a double and two RBI, going 2-for-4 while scoring a run.

Melanee Terry went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Owls.
