Whitten Scores First Collegiate Goal as Eagles Run Past Clippers, 6-0

Box Score

BANGOR, Maine -  First year Willow Whitten scored her first goal in an Eagle uniform to assist the Husson University Eagles (1-1-0) in taking down the Clippers of the University of Maine at Machias (1-1-0) by the score of 6-0 on Saturday evening in a non-conference match.

IN THE ACTION:

Bri Saulter opened the scoring for Husson in the 15th minute, using just a few touches to redirect a pass from the top of the box by Mackenzie St. Pierre before firing it past Clippers' keeper Elana Lancia.

First year Willow Whitten joined in on the offensive action as she battled three Clipper defenders in her pursuit to goal to put the Eagles up 2-0 heading into the half.

The Husson offense wasted no time expanding their lead, as Carey set-up St. Pierre off of a beautiful pass to take a point blank shot on Malyssa Kubik. Saulter scored her second of the game when Sydney Drew found her on a pass across the box. St. Pierre also knocked in a pair of points as freshman Lydia Boucher picked up her first collegiate point assisting the 5-0 advatange before Shannon Dowd rounded out the scoring for the home team to 6-0 late in the game.

THE KEEPERS:

Lancia allowed two goals and made five stops before turning the net over to teammate Kubik for the second half to take a stab at playing the field. Kubik recorded eight saves and gave up four goals. Eagles' netminder Shie Smith picked up her first collegiate win in the 90-minute effort.

HUSSON LEADERS:

  • Dowd recorded a game high six shots with five landing on target.

  • Saulter and St. Pierre both chipped in two goals on the night.

TEAM STATS:

  • The Eagles displayed a strong defense, yet an even stronger offense as they held a 12-0 edge in corner kicks.
