Box Score 2 BANGOR, Maine- Husson University Softball Team (11-10, 1-1 NAC) spilt a doubleheader with New England College (10-18, 4-2 NAC) by the final scores of 7-9 and 8-0 at O'Keefe Field on Saturday afternoon.
New England College 9, Husson 7
How it Happened:
The Eagles took the lead in the first inning as Madelyn Fowler (East Barre, Vt.) hit a home run off of the scoreboard in left field to make it 1-0.
Husson added two runs in the second inning as Bri Brochu (Pittston, Maine) hit a 2-run RBI-triple into right field to make it 3-0.
The green and gold added two more runs in the third inning as Olivia Smith (Calais, Maine) crushed a 2-run home run into center field.
The Pilgrims added a run in the fourth inning as Joslyn Gallagher (Fitchburg, Mass.) hit a home run over the center field fence to make it 5-1.
NEC cut the lead to 5-2 in the fifth inning as Rachel Senechal (Killingworth, Conn.) grounded out to second base that allowed Shawnie Clark (Holden, Mass.) to score.
In the sixth, the Pilgrims took a 6-5 lead. It started with Christine McNeil (Pawcatuck, Conn.), as she hit a RBI-double to left field. Clark had the big moment of the inning with a 3-run home run.
The Eagles responded in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 6. Paige Veilleuz-Adams (Winslow, Maine) scored on a throwing error to make it a brand new ballgame.
The Grims took the lead in the seventh inning as Gallagher doubled to bring home a run. Destiny Helmedach (Middlefield, Conn) reached on an error that scored two more runs and made it 9-6 NEC.
Trying to get back into the game, Husson got a run back in the bottom half of the inning as Tamara Aunchman (Panton, Vt.) with a solo shot out of left field to make it 9-7.

How it Happened:
The Eagles took very little time as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the 1st inning. Fowler started it off with a 2-run RBI-double to make 2-0. Smith followed that up with a home run to score herself and Fowler. Morgan Coleman (Acton, Maine) scored late on in the inning thanks to a fielding error.
Husson added a run in the 2nd inning as Chloe Gorey (Scarborough, Maine) attempted to steal second base and got caught in a pickle that allowed Brochu to score and make it 6-0.
Eagles finished off the scoring as Coleman hit a 2-run home run to finish the game at 8-0.
