Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

TUCSON, Ariz. – Husson University (1-7) dropped two close games to end their spring trip in Tucson, Ariz. The Eagles fell to Northland, 6-4, and Coe, 9-6. Husson worked through some tough innings and battled back in both games but fell just short.

GAME ONE: Northland 6, Husson 4

Husson dropped a nail bitter to Northland, Thursday morning at Julie Reitan Complex in Arizona. Northland struck first by scoring a run in the top of the first inning off a single by pitcher Natalie Alfaro. Northland would strike again in the top of the third with a homerun from Kylie Wickiser.  Freshman Madelyn Fowler stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the third and hit a homerun of her own over the left field fence, making it 2-1 Northland.

Northland would take advantage of some timely hits and Husson mistakes to score four runs in the top of the fourth inning. Husson would battle to get another run back in the fourth, as Kylie Kennedy reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a single by Olivia Maynard. Jen Jones came up and doubled to left center scoring Kennedy. The rally ended on a groundout.

Sophomore Jen Jones recorded three quick outs on the mound, and The Eagles scored two more runs off a Fowler triple, Chloe Gorey sac fly, Smith single, and a Tamara Aunchman single. The Eagles offense tried to make a run in the bottom of the seventh, getting two runners on base but couldn't push them across.

GAME TWO: Coe 9, Husson 6

The Eagles took to the bats first against Coe in the final game of the Tucson Invitational. Husson started off strong with a single from Bri Brochu. Madelyn Fowler bunted her over to second, and Olivia Smith doubled to left field bringing Brochu in for the first run of the game.

Husson's Jen Jones held Coe scoreless until the third inning when Coe first baseman Alexis O'Brien hit a 2-run homerun over the right field fence. Coe was able to get two more runs in the bottom of the fourth off one hit and two Eagles errors, to make it 4-1 heading into the fifth. ,

Husson grabbed the momentum back in the top of the fifth, when Chloe Gorey reached first on an error by the shortstop. Smith then doubled to right center, and took third on the throw home in an attempt to catch Gorey. Coe catcher J. Brooks threw to third in an attempt to catch Smith but resulted in an overthrow, allowing Smith to take home.

Coe would answer right back in the bottom of the fifth scoring four runs off four hits. Husson saw hits come from catcher Kylie Cunningham and Brochu in the sixth but couldn't push any runs across. The Eagles would rally again in the seventh scoring three runs off singles from Smith, Tamara Aunchman, Shelby Burge, Brochu, and Madelyn Fowler.
