Eagles Defeat Mariners on Senior Day, 13-3

BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University women's lacrosse team defeated Maine Maritime Academy, 13-3 in their final regular season North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game at John P. Boucher Field on Monday afternoon.

In a pregame ceremony senior's Alissa FallonAnna Wolterbeek and Theresa Butler were all recognized for their contributions to the Husson women's lacrosse program.

Husson (6-6, 4-4 NAC) extends their winning streak to three to end the regular season, while Maine Maritime (0-11, 0-8 NAC) drops their eighth straight conference game on the year.

The Eagles built a 4-1 lead on the Mariners with goals by Brooke Quirion and three from Amanda Deshaies before Briana Obshatkin put one past Husson keeper Kaitlin Dolloff for an unassisted goal at the 10:56 mark of the first half.

Five minutes later, a Husson goal by Mariah Carrier with an assist from Fallon puts the Eagles up 5-2 going into the intermission. 

Two minutes into the second half, Mattie Russell buries her first goal of the day past keeper Christina Wilson for the 6-2 lead. Husson then goes on a six goal run with goals from Fallon, Butler, two from Samara Oliver, and three more from Deshaies to take their largest lead of the game 12-2. 

Obshatkin then knocks one in for the Mariners with 11:26 left to play. After a scoreless 11 minutes, the Eagles claim the 13-3 victory from a final Anna Wolterbeek goal. 

Deshaies lead the Eagles with five goals and one assist, while Fallon broke the record for most assists in a single game with seven. Oliver, Russell, Butler, Fallon, and Wolterbeek had one goal a piece. The Eagles picked up 44 ground balls, claimed 3-8 free position shots, and had 33 shots on the day. Dolloff is credited with the win with seven saves which makes her the all time career wins leader for the program. 

For the Mariners, Obshatkin had two goals and six shots, four of which were on goal while Rachel Redles had the other goal for the day. MMA came away with six draw controls, thirteen shots, and picked up 31 ground balls. 

The result allows the Eagles to clinch the fourth seed in the North Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship and closes the door on the Mariners' season. The Eagles will host Green Mountain on Friday, April 29 at John P. Boucher Field. Time to be determined.
