Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Husson University softball team open up their 2016 campaign with a split on day one of their spring trip on Sunday morning. The Eagles defeated Mount St. Joseph, 2-1 in game one before dropping the second game by a score of 8-0 to Westminster (Pa.) in five innings.
Game 1: Husson: 2 Mount St. Joseph: 1
Alannah Healy retired the first nine batters she faced before allowing a double to right field by Morgan Kain to lead off the bottom of the fourth for Mount St. Joseph (1-1-1) while Paige Kiesewetter matched Healy pitch by pitch keeping the game scoreless over the first four innings.
Husson (1-1) got all the runs that Healy needed to give the Eagles their first win of 2016 in the top of the fifth when Kiesewetter walked Casey Lopes with the bases load scoring Brianna Bires with the first run of the game. On the very next pitch the Eagles gained an insurance run on a passed ball. The Lions scored their lone run in the sixth inning when Kiesewetter hit a single to left field scoring Kain from second base.
Healy (1-0) picked up her 12th career win after allowing five hits and one run over seven innings of work earning her fifth career complete game. Kiesewetter (1-1) allowed two runs on four hits with nine strikeouts and five walks in the lost while pitching her second complete game on the season.
Game 2: Westminster (Pa.): 8 Husson: 0 in five inning
The Eagles bats were quiet in game two of day one as Titans pitcher Jazmyn Rohrer threw a no-hitter as Westminster (2-1) picked up their first ever win over Husson.
Rohrer, who picked up her second win on the season, struck out eleven batters in a complete-five-inning-game victory. Westminster had 16 total hits, led by Emily Lindsey, Country Dieterich, and Hannah Ritter who all had three hits each. Nicole Anderson led the Titans with four RBIs. Westminster scored three runs in the first inning and five in the fourth.
Lopes and Mallory Conary were the only Eagle players to reach base both on walks.
Husson is right back at it tomorrow when they play Simpson College at 11:15 am and Defiance College at 1:30 pm on day two of their spring trip.
