BANGOR, Maine - Husson scored five unanswered goals Saturday to win its eighth-straight game against a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) foe following a 5-1 victory over New England (N.H.) in the league opener for both teams.
The Eagles five goals Saturday at Boucher Field are their most ever against the Pilgrims.
"With this being the NAC opener, it's a new season for us, and we wanted to get better everyday," Husson coach Jeff Gettler said. "We definitely got better from last weekend. It was a fantastic performance by so many people, but to come back from a one-goal deficit to put away a very, very, very good team was fantastic by our guys. We were a really special team tonight."
Camille Sheehan (2) gave New England (5-4, 0-1 NAC) a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute, but Phil Frost (4) answered for Husson (4-2, 1-0 NAC) with a goal in the 22nd minute when Cam Libbey found Frost on a breakaway following a Pilgrims turnover at midfield. Reigning NAC Player of the Week Stephen Berenyi (3) gave the Eagles a 2-1 edge in the 39th minute from eight yards out when he went top shelf following a throw-in by Josh Bean and header pass by Viktor Domberg. Miguel Caballero (2) increased the difference to two goals with 35 seconds left before intermission after a rebound of his first shot that hit off the post.
An own goal off the hands of New England goalkeeper Tenzin Khenrab in the 49th minute made the score 4-1. A Frost to Libbey (3) connection in the 50th minute produced a goal from 18 yards out in the bottom left corner of the net.
Goalkeeper Cody Gross (3-1) made seven saves in 90 minutes of action for the win.
Khenrab (3-2) recorded four saves in 90 minutes.
Husson travels to Colby-Sawyer (N.H.) on Saturday, Sept. 26, for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff.
