BANGOR, Maine - Phil Frost's 50th career goal Sunday afternoon proved to be the game-winner in a 3-0 Husson win over Lyndon State (Vt.) in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play at Boucher Field. The Eagles win their seventh-straight game overall and ninth-consecutive at home over the Hornets and improve to 27-13-2 all-time in the series.
Husson (6-3, 3-1 NAC), which posted its first shutout this year, has won nine-straight games at Boucher Field, including a 5-0 mark this year.
"All credit to Lyndon State, they worked their tails off and made the game really hard for us," Husson coach Jeff Gettler said. "In the first half, it was a tough battle, and we couldn't impose ourselves, but finally in the second half, we started to settle down, play a little faster, get through and around their pressure and create some scoring opportunities that we could finish because in the first half, we had chances but couldn't finish."
Frost (7) found the back of the net in 53rd minute with an assist by Jimmy Fitzpatrick. Frost becomes the seventh player in program history to join the 50-goal club and first since Adam Heaselwood and Jason Hill both reached the mark in 1996.
"Obviously 50 goals is a great milestone, but it's just a reflection of the great time I've had here at Husson," Frost said. "Our team is starting to come together and make progress everyday."
"Phil is a special player, leader and man," Gettler commented. "It's a credit that he's been so consistent in his goal scoring, and he's got plenty of goals in him yet, but it's an incredible achievement in the modern game when he's getting almost better than a goal every two games. He's got a fantasic approach to the game and finding ways to score."
Frost and Josh Bellomo assisted on a Cam Libbey (4) goal in the 59th minute to give Husson a 2-0 edge. Miguel Caballero (2) concluded the scoring in the 73rd minute with an assist by Bellomo.
Cody Gross (4-2) made three saves for his first career clean sheet.
Matt LaClair (1-8) recorded eight saves in the loss.
The Eagles outshot the Hornets 19-13.
Husson travels to Colby (Maine) for a non-conference match Wednesday, Oct. 7, for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
