BANGOR, ME – The Husson University football fell to MIT in an NCAA First Round Playoff game by the score of 27-20 in overtime at the Winkin Complex on Saturday afternoon. Husson completes its season with an 8-2 record while MIT goes to 10-0. 

In overtime, MIT quarterback Peter Williams threw a pass in the corner to Seve Esparrago who was falling out of bounds. He stretched and barely got both feet in, but was able to score the touchdown.

The Eagles responded and had a fourth-and-four play from the MIT 9-yardline. It appeared that they scored a touchdown, but the receiver, who was in the back corner of the endzone, was ruled to have caught the ball out of bounds to end the game. 

The Eagles took a quick 7-0 lead when Kenny Sweet (Portland, ME) intercepted an Esparrago pass on a 1^st-and-10 from the MIT 47 and returned it all the way for the score.

The Eagles took a 14-7 lead when Joe Seccareccia (Bangor, ME) found Deon Wiggins and he made a fantastic grab for a 33-yard touchdown to cap a 6-play, 73 yard drive. 

MIT converted a field goal with less than five minutes left in the half and Husson took a 14-10 lead into halftime. 

The Engineers took a 17-14 lead when Peter Williams found Brad Goldsberry for a six-yard score with four minutes left in the third, but Seccareccia found Wiggins again for the go-ahead score with 5:37 left on a 14-yard pass. The ensuing extra point was blocked, and Husson held a 20-17 lead. 

With time running down in regulation, MIT tied the game on a 38-yard field goal as time expired to send the game into overtime.

Stephan Dance (New London, CT) and Ellis Throckmorton (Bangor, ME) each had 12 tackles while Matt Pellerin (Leeds, ME) had 3.0 tackles-for-loss to lead the defense along with Sweet. 

Husson had 452 total yards while MIT had 459. 

The Engineers were led by Williams who had 291 yards passing and a pair of scores. 

The Eagles finished the season with their first-ever ECFC crown and first NCAA playoff game to cap a magical season.
