Women's Soccer Falls in Double Overtime

Box Score

BANGOR, ME – The Husson University women's soccer team lost a heartbreaker to Castleton in double overtime by the score of 2-1. Husson falls to 10-7-0 overall and 7-2-0 in NAC play while Castleton improves to 11-6-1 and 7-1-1 in league play.

Michaela Bicknell (West Addison, VT) gave the Eagles the lead in the 22nd minute when Lexi Crawford (North Bridgton, ME) found her on the left side of the penalty box and Bicknell hit a rocket that was still rising as it went into the net.

Castleton would eventually tie the game when Mallory Costello  received a ball deep in the Husson box and was able to roof it over Husson goalkeeper Jess Poulin (Albion, ME).

Poulin would continue to keep it a tie game, making a remarkable kick save on a break away in the first overtime. However, Costello would notch her second goal of the match when Nicole Wershoven sent a through ball and Costello hit a shot low and to the far corner to win the match.

"We fell short of our objective today, but our team battled and put some good moments together," said Husson head coach Carly Gettler. "We will continue to work on our consistency as we head into playoffs."

Poulin finished with 12 saves while Castleton's Jessica Binkowski made five. Husson hosts UMaine-Presque Isle on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and will play in the NAC Tournament with an opponent and date to be announced by the conference later.
