Box Score BANGOR, ME – Phil Frost's (Bangor, ME) goal in the 11th minute proved to be the game-winner as the Husson University men's soccer team blanked Green Mountain College 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field. With the win, the Eagles improve to 9-7-0 overall and 6-2-0 in North Atlantic Conference play while Green Mountain falls to 3-8-0 overall and 0-8-0 in league play.
Frost was awarded a penalty kick in which he successfully beat the Green Mountain goalkeeper as he placed the ball in the lower right corner of the net for his seventh goal of the season.
Husson would go on to score four more goals before the end of the first half. Cam Libbey (Hampden, ME) registered his third goal of the season in the 21st minute, Charles Bujambi (Demorcratic Republic of Congo) notched his second goal of the season in the 37th minute on a corner kick from Gage Kennedy (Farmington, ME), and Kennedy tallied his first goal of the season in the 38th minute.
The Eagles would take a 5-0 lead in the 41st minute as Green Mountain scored on their own net.
Saker Ghanayem (Orlando, FL) scored in the 56th minute with the assist on the goal going to Josh Bellomo (Hudson, NH) and Bujambi. The Eagles would register one last goal in the 82nd minute of play as Jay Bishop (Frankfort, ME) found the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
Brian Potter (Waterville, ME) made three saves as he recorded his fourth shutout of the season. Potter sees his record improve to 9-7-0 on the season.
Husson outshot Green Mountain 27-7 with 15 shots on goal.
"The guys did a great job today, it was a complete team effort and we were able to get a ton of guys in," said Husson head coach Jeff Gettler. "Really everybody contributed and now were playing for potentially, depending on what other things happen, first or second place tomorrow which would be a bye. So huge weekend for us and a very good performance today."
The Eagles return to the pitch on Sunday, October 26th for a 2:30pm match against Castleton State. This game will mark the 850th game in program history and we will also be honoring our seniors.
