WATERVILLE, Maine – The North Atlantic Conference released its postseason awards for men's soccer on Tuesday and the Husson University men's soccer team earned eight all-conference selections.
Freshman Cesar Soucre was named a first team honoree after he showcased why he is one of the conference's top talents in his first year with Husson, appearing in 17 games and making 15 starts. The attacking midfielder totaled five goals and five assists, in addition to recording two game-winning goals. Soucre recorded all of his goals and all of his assists in conference play, while also putting 18 of his 25 shots on frame. The first-year directed a lot of Husson's set pieces and provided the Eagles with a great weapon in the midfield area to build their attack.
Freshman Miguel Diaz Alvarez secured the other first team spot for the Eagles, as he blossomed into one of the conference's best goal scoring threats once the calendar turned to conference play, as the first year forward appeared in 18 games and made 17 starts in his first year with the program. Diaz Alvarez recorded 11 goals and two assists for the Eagles as a winger, with 10 goals and one assist happening in conference games. Diaz Alvarez ranked third on the team in minutes played, while tallying one game-winning goal and converting on all three of his penalty kick attempts. Diaz Alvarez ranked third in the conference in total goals and second in total shot attempts and was named NAC co-player of the week once and NAC rookie of the week once during the season.
Senior Menuka Perera garnered a second team selection for the Eagles following a breakout senior year. Perera was a staple for the Eagles at center back, appearing in 18 games and making 16 starts, while leading the team in minutes played. Perera flourished in his expanded role this season, playing more than double the minutes this year than he had in his first three years combined, while providing a physical and vocal presence for Husson as a captain. The senior tallied one goal for Husson this year.
Freshman Rique Mendes was voted to the third team for the Eagles. Mendes is the definition of a true striker for Husson, having appeared in 18 games, making 13 starts for the Eagles in his freshman season. Mendes totaled five goals and four assists and had one game-winning goal, while posting five goals and three assists specifically in conference play. Mendes posted a 3-3 conversion rate on penalty kicks and provided the Eagles with a strong and athletic presence at the point of their attack.
Freshman Chadi Hamadi also secured a spot on the third team, as he provided Husson with a technical attacking midfield presence en route to the number two seed in the conference, as he appeared in 16 games making 14 starts. Hamadi recorded three goals and an assist in his first year in the green and gold, with just one of his goals coming outside of conference play.
Junior Victor Blanco picked up another third team nod for the Eagles, as he has been a great leader and communicator for Husson as a defensive midfielder, recording 15 games played and 11 starts in his second season with the program. Blanco provided great awareness as a defender, controlling the midfield battle with his calm, yet physical demeanor. A captain on this year's squad, Blanco has recorded one assist for Husson.
Freshman Adne Glotheim recorded a third team selection in his first year with Husson, as he came on for the Eagles at the start of conference play as a lockdown defender on the wing, appearing in all nine conference games, making three starts. Overall, Glotheim appeared in 18 of Husson's games, making five starts, while being matched up and holding his own against some of the conference's top goal scorers. Glotheim possesses a great ability in adjusting to the style of his opponents, being able to match their physicality, speed and IQ to put him in the best position possible for Husson's backline as an outside back.
Freshman Liam Mason picked up the final all-conference selection for the Eagles on the third team after he stepped up for Husson in his freshman season and became the team's primary goalkeeper when the team entered conference play. Mason appeared in 13 games in net, making 12 starts, including starting six of the nine conference games for Husson. Mason posted a 2.41 goals against average overall for the Eagles, while lowering that to 1.88 in conference games, totaling 54 saves and one complete-game shutout in his rookie year.
Additionally for Husson, freshman Noah Crosby was named to the sportsmanship team.
