Box Score Castleton, VT – Husson women's soccer fell to Castleton Sunday afternoon 3-0.
The Spartans produced the only offense of the game seeing 3 goals on the afternoon. The first coming from Mallory Costello who finished off a header after a scrum in the box. Nicole Gay earned the assist on the play as the Spartans took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the second frame, Castleton added two goals, scoring in the 62nd and 67th minutes to take a 3-0 lead. Halie Roberge ripped a corner kick to the far post where Allison Vachon finished it off with a headed effort. Morgan Young scored on a grounded cross from Dominique Valancius that found her foot near the six-yard line. Young buried it to put the Spartans up 3-0.
Whitney Cross (Belfast, ME) led the way for the Eagles offensively with 2 shots on goal. The game also saw senior Lona Sargent (Sullivan, ME) and first year Sydney Costa (Acushnet, MA) get shots on goal.
"Castleton presented a good side today, and despite the fact that we battled with them, we also made some mistakes and lost this one," said Head Coach Carly Gettler, "We are showing a lot of progress as a team and are looking forward to playing at home next weekend."
Jess Poulin (Albion, ME) had a strong outing in net for the Eagles with 13 saves.
Husson falls to 3-6-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the North Atlantic Conference. The Spartans who are undefeated against NAC opponents are now 8-3 overall.
The Eagles will move on quickly when they host two NAC opponents next weekend for Homecoming, when they play Lyndon State on Saturday and Johnson State on Sunday.
