Box Score 2 Castleton, VT - Husson softball took two games from the Castleton Spartans on Saturday afternoon winning the first game, 9-0 in 5 innings and game two 6-3.
Game 1:
Sami Schultz (Hermon, ME) led the Eagles past the Spartans with 5 RBIs on 3 hits, including a 2-run home run. Courtney Hill (Calais, ME) went 3-3, scoring 1 run, while Deb Colpitts (Levant, ME) and Aimee Mortensen (Biddeford, ME) both grabbed extra bases with doubles in the game.
Becca McCarty (Skowhegan, ME) earned the win for Husson, going 4 innings, allowing just 2 hits with 6 strikeouts. Kayla Merrill (Bethel, ME) came in for 1 inning of relief, allowing just one hit.
Emily Sweeney pitched all 5 innings for the Spartans in the loss, giving up 15 hits, striking out 2.
Game 2:
Aimee Mortensen led the Eagles to victory in game 2, going 3-3, including a double, batting in 4 runs. Kayla Merrill went 2-2 scoring 2 runs and stealing 3 bases. Deb Colpitts went 2-3, batting in 1 run, on 2 hits.
Lona Sargent (Sullivan, ME), Merrill, Mortensen, and Victoria Overlock (Belfast, ME) all had stolen bases.
Brittany Brayman homered for the Spartans, batting in 2 runs in game 2. Chelsea Crehan went 3-2 including a double.
Colpitts pitched a strong 5 innings coming off her no-hitter earlier this week to earn the win, striking out 4, giving up just 4 hits. Becca McCarty pitched 2 innings, giving up just 3 hits, and striking out 1.
Taylor Lively pitched all 7 innings for Castleton, giving up 11 hits, with 8 strikeouts, and 4 walks.
With these two conference wins the Eagles are 10-8 overall and a perfect 4-0 in the North Atlantic Conference. Husson will continue their away weekend with a stop at Green Mountain College for a doubleheader tomorrow (Sunday, April 7th) starting at 12:00 PM.
