Eagles Take Doubleheader From UMF; Outscore Beavers 17-0

Bangor, ME - Husson Softball took a pair of games from the University of Maine at Farmington Saturday afternoon to effectively clinch the number one seed in the upcoming North Atlantic Conference Tournament. The Eagles exploded for 16 runs in game two, after nearly edging the Beavers 1-0 in game one.

Game 1 - Husson 1, UMF 0

Game on was played at a frantic pace, lasting just over an hour with Husson taking the slim 1-0 win. Husson pitcher Amanda Ryan improved her season record to 7-3 in the circle, going seven innings allowing only four hits with four K's. 

The Eagles were held to only four hits as well, but notched three of them in the bottom of the sixth to score the game's only run. Kelsey Livermore entered to hit for Amanda Ryan and singled through the right side of the infield. Malory Conary pinch ran for Livermore and advanced to second with one out on a Lona Sargent single. Courtney Hill loaded the bases with a bunt single towards the circle and sped down the line to beat out the throw. Aimee Mortensen flied out to left in the next at bat, scoring Conary for the 1-0 lead.

Emily Soule pitched a tough six innings for the Beavers, allowing just the one run on four hits while striking out two.

Ryan came back into the game for the seventh inning and sat down the Beavers 1-2-3 to seal the one-run victory. 

Game 2 - Husson 16, UMF 0

The Husson bats got off to a quick start in game two, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first and eight runs an inning later.

Husson had the ability to pitch three different hurlers in the game with the comfortable lead in the likes of starter Becca McCarty and relievers Kayla Merrill and Emily Staples. McCarty toed the rubber in the first and second, allowing a hit with two strikeouts. Merrill pitched the third and fourth allowing only a walk with two K's and Staples came in for the fifth and final inning with the eight-run mercy rule in effect.

The Eagles scored their 16 runs on 14 hits, four of which came off the bat of Lona Sargent who went 4-4 in game two with five RBI, including a grand slam in the second inning the plated Becca McCarty, Lyndsey Merrill and Victoria Overlock. Melissa Souza, Overlock and Aimee Mortensen all added two RBI in game two.
