Women's Lacrosse Loses Non-Conference Match to UNE

Biddeford, ME – Husson women's lacrosse (2-2) fell to the University of New England (2-4) in non-conference action on Monday afternoon. Twelve different players scored for UNE in their 21-10 victory. 

For Husson, junior Haley Huntington (West Gardiner, ME) scored twice and had a match-best six draw controls. First-year Anna Wolterbeek (Wells, ME) notched two goals and one assist. Six other players recorded goals for the Eagles—Alissa Fallon (Kennebunk, ME), Theresa Butler (Bridgton, ME), Caitlyn Stauffer (Brookfield, CT), Amanda Mora (Stratford, CT), Emily Child (Mexico, ME), and Hailey Geoghegan (Bridgton, ME).

Senior Kayleigh Piccirillo (Walpole, NH) had three caused turnovers for the visitors, while classmate Chelsea Kondratowicz (Kingston, NY) posted seven saves in goal.

Junior Hannah Tavella (Putnam Valley, NY) and sophomore Gina Newsome (Danbury, CT) each finished with eight points on the day for UNE. Big Blue sophomore Nikki Smith (Shapleigh, ME) added three scores, while senior Emily Lodge (Lyman, ME), sophomore Macki Hill (York Beach, ME), and sophomore Rachel Schwaner (Holderness, NH) chipped in with two goals apiece. Sophomore Tatum Fahs (Woodstock, CT) had a goal and two assists.

Senior Nicolle Steel (Ocean City, NJ) had a game-best five ground balls. UNE first-year Courtney Kendall (Waltham, MA) made eight stops on the other end of the field to earn the victory.

The Nor'easters rattled off the game's first five scores, and led 8-1 with a little over 10 minutes left in the opening period. The difference remained seven (11-4) at the break.

With a 15-7 cushion near the midway point of the 2nd half, Big Blue struck for four consecutive goals to extend the gap to double digits.

For the contest, UNE outshot Husson by a 35-22 margin, and led in both ground balls (28-14) and draws (19-13).

Husson will play on the road on Saturday at 4 PM, when North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action starts up with a road match against New England College. The Nor'easters begin Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Wednesday (7 PM) at home against Wentworth Institute of Technology.
