Husson Wins Game Two of New Balance Challenge Cup

Box Score

Bangor, ME- Husson Men's Soccer won 2-1 against University of Massachusetts at Boston Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field, during the second game of the 1st Annual New Balance Challenge Cup. Senior Captain Trevor Higgins scored the game-winning goal off a throw in by Sophomore Andrew Austin with 21:34 remaining in the second half.

The first half was quiet for both teams, UMass Boston had 6 shots, and Husson was unable to get a ball on net, seeing most action in front of the their own net due to a strong blustery wind that made it difficult for Sophomore Goalkeeper Brian Potter to clear the ball out successfully.

Higgins' goal put Husson up 2-0 with the other goal coming at 26:03 remaining in the second half from Sophomore Phil Frost assisted by First Year Cam Libbey.

UMass Boston Senior Goalkeeper Bryce Dowd was taken out of the game due to injury after Husson's second and final goal, replacing him was First Year Forward Hector Mata.

UMass Boston's lone goal came from Sophomore Douglas Silviera at 20:26 left of the second half.

Sunday (Sept. 9) is the final day of the 1st Annual New Balance Challenge Cup UMass Boston will face Maine Maritime Academy at 3:00PM.  Next up for Husson will be Colby College Wednesday night at 7:00PM at John P. Boucher Field.
