Box Score Bangor, ME - The Husson men's basketball team broke into triple digits for the first time this season, avenging an early season loss to Green Mountain by besting the visiting Eagles 104-47 in Newman Gymnasium Friday night. With the win, Husson improves to 9-10 overall and an 8-4 record in the North Atlantic Conference. Green Mountain falls to 3-14 (2-11 NAC) in the defeat.
Husson spread the ball around even more than usual in the lopsided victory, finishing the game with seven players with double-digits in the scoring column as all 17 members of the home roster saw the floor. Two of the players who were not on the roster the first time these two teams met - Eric Modica (Kittery, ME) and Luis Medina (Hartford, CT) - led the game in scoring with 14 a piece. Medina also led all players with eight assists on the night as well.
Mike Gonzales (Ft. Washington, MD) added 12, Phil Leighton (Naples, ME) chipped in with 11, while Marc Zaharchuk (Richmond, ME), Brad Libby (Brewer, ME) and Daeshawn McMorrin (Naugatuck, CT) tallied an even 10 apiece with McMorrin narrowly missing a double-double with a game-high nine boards.
Collectively, Husson finished the game shooting 53.9% from the floor, out-rebounded their opponents by a 47-19 margin, and took advantage of 29 turnovers from the visitors.
The visiting Eagles were led by shooting guard Jack Hepburn (Miller Place, NY) who scored 13 points on 4-9 shooting from behind the arc. As a team, Green Mountain came out in the second half with much better aim, shooting 40% from the floor and from three point range in the final frame.
Husson will remain at home on Saturday when they take on the top-ranked Castleton State Spartans at 3:00 pm. The Eagles lost to Castleton by just one point in the teams' first meeting earlier this season. Green Mountain will take on Maine Maritime Academy at 3:00 pm in Castine, ME.
