Men's Soccer Post-Season Run Ends in ECAC Semis

Box Score

Bristol, RI - Fifth-seeded Husson fell to first-seeded Roger Williams in the ECAC semifinals on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks topped the Eagles 8-2 in the high-scoring affair. The Eagles finish at 15-6-1 in a season that saw the first out-of-conference post-season victory in program history as they defeated Norwich in the ECAC quarterfinals. Roger Williams improved to 17-2 as they head to the ECAC final to face Coast Guard.

After a slow start for the Eagles, they found themselves at a 4-0 deficit at halftime. Billy Kissane (Glastonbury, CT), Bradley Macdonald (Topsfield, MA), Tyler Peckham (Coventry, RI), and Andrew Carlson (Ridgefield, CT) put Roger Williams on the board in the first half. The second half saw a fifth goal by the Hawks off another Macdonald goal before the Eagles got on the board. Stephen Berenyi (Levant, ME) crossed a beautiful ball that Cam Libbey (Hampden, ME) got on the end of. Libbey's first volley was stopped, but the rebound returned to him and he buried it, bringing the score to 5-1 in the 56th minute.

Sheldon and Guthrie Carpenter (Fairfield, CT) put away two more goals for the Hawks in the 65th and 66th minutes before an Andrew Austin (Ellsworth, ME) flip throw was misplayed by the Roger Williams defense and went in for an own goal. Jedu Armar (London, England) wrapped up the scoring for the Hawks in the 84th minute.

Husson coach Jeff Gettler said of the Eagles' final match of their 2012 campaign, "Overall, this was one of our poorest efforts of the season. We made some mistakes that led to bad goals early and then we had to chase the game and open ourselves up too much."

For the Hawks, Tom Mangels (Garden City, NY) made two saves in the game in 61:10 of action. Jon Pelloso (Wilbraham, MA) also played 28:50 in net, making one stop on the day. Senior Mason Smith (Houma, LA) took the loss for Husson, making eight saves.
