Box Score Bangor, ME- Husson Women's Soccer suffered their first conference loss of the year Saturday afternoon to Castleton State College 1-0 at Boucher Field.
Both teams entered the day undefeated in conference play. Castleton scored the only goal of the game in the 20th minute when Sarah Ethier (Portsmouth, RI) netted a pass from Kelsey Garceau (St. Albans, VT).
The Eagles played a very defensively minded game, seeing 22 shots their way. Sophomore goalkeeper Jess Poulin (Albion, ME) had 10 saves. Senior Meghan O'Neil (Hartford, VT) earned one defensive save when she kicked out a shot providing support to Poulin who had come out to stop a shot just seconds before. Husson really turned up the pressure in the second half but they were unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
Coach Carly Gettler said after the match, "We've been trying all season to put together a 90 minute performance, and we did that today. We played very well against a tough, attacking Castleton team and saw some great performances from a lot of players, including Meghan King, Meg O'Neil, and Erin Boulier."
Husson looks to rebound quickly tomorrow afternoon when they will host another conference opponent Green Mountain College at 12:00 PM.
