Wesley Too Much For Eagles

Box Score

Bangor, ME - The #13 ranked Wolverines of Wesley College flexed their muscles this Saturday, as they walked away from their matchup with Husson University with a 72-0 victory. Wesley outpaced the Eagles in every statistical category, and proved why they are a perennial contender for the Stagg Bowl.

Kash Keezer (Veazie, ME) led the Eagles with 113 yards passing, but threw 3 interceptions to a hungry Wesley D. First year receiver Shabashe McIntosh (Bridgeport, CT) had 6 catches for 46 yards (7.7 yards per reception) in a breakout game.  Defensively, Stephan Dance (New London, CT) led Husson with 12 total tackles (7 solo), followed by senior Kyle Vanidestine (Bangor, ME) who accounted for 10 total tackles (5 solo).

Shane McSweeney (Bensalem, PA) threw for 228 yards and 4 TDs on 13-18 passing against the Eagle defense. McSweeney had a rushing TD as well, accounting for 5 scores on his own. The Wolverines were stout on the ground as well, rushing for 196 yards on 48 attempts, led by three different backs who had over  30 yards a piece. The Wolverine passing game included 10 different receivers, led by first year receiver Steven Koudossou (Waldorf, MD) who had two catches – both for scores – accounting for 106 yards , highlighted by a 77 yard touchdown strike. The Wesley defense was led by senior linebacker Jeff Morgan (Vineland, NJ) who had 7 solo tackles, and Mike Asiedu (Yonkers, NY) who picked off a Keezer pass and took it 77 yards for a defensive TD.

The Wolverines started the game off with a bang, when Matt Barile (Bel Air, MD) took the opening kickoff 79 yards for the score just 14 seconds into the game. After a 3-and-out by the Eagles, Wesley set up an 11 play, 50 yard drive that took 5:39, capped off by a 4 yard scamper by McSweeney. The kick failed, and Wesley took a 13-0 edge.

The Eagles muffed their kickoff return attempt, giving Wesley a short field. Beginning their second drive on the Husson 3 yardline, Jarrett Williams (Bartow, FL) punched it in for the third score of the game. Husson picked up their first first down of the game on the next drive, but one was all they would get, but a well-placed punt from Kyle Bishop (Waterville, ME) – who had 9 punts on the day with a 38.7 yard average – put Wesley on their own 23. McSweeney found Koudossou down the left sideline for a 77 yard TD connection. Wesley led 27-0.

After another Husson 3-and-out, McSweeney led the Wolverines on a 7 play, 68 yard drive, finished by a 3 yard toss to Sean Hopkins (Georgetown, DE). That was the final Wesley score on a 34 point first quarter, all but sealed the deal after one. The Wolverines added another 21 in the second quarter to take a 55-0 lead at the half. The Eagles fared better against the Wesley reserves in the second half, allowing just a field goal in the third, but were still blanked 17-0 in the final half as the Wolverines took the 72-0 victory.

The Eagles return home next weekend – Homecoming at Husson University – to take on Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) foe Becker College at 1:00 pm.
