Box Score Bangor, ME – The Husson University football team kicked
off their 2010 season with a stinging 38-0 defeat to
20th ranked Otterbein University. The
Cardinals' Colton Coy (Sr., Chillicothe) tallied two rushing
touchdowns and amassed 167 rushing yards on the Otterbein
win. Otterbein opens their record at 1-0 while the Eagles
fall to 0-1 on the young season.
The Cardinals reached the scoreboard with 3:41 remaining in the
first quarter when quarterback Austin Schlosser (Jr., Plain City,
OH) connected with Coy for a 32 yard pass, setting up a four yard
touchdown rush by Coy. Schlosser found Trey Fairchild for a
49 yard reception followed by a 6 yard touchdown pass in the second
quarter, pushing the Cardinals' lead to 14-0. Schlosser
then threaded a 10 yard pass to Steve Kuzyk (Sr., Seville, OH) to
push the Otterbein lead to 21.
The Eagles would begin the third quarter down by 21, only to
face an immediate touchdown rush by Coy, following an
interception. Early in the fourth quarter, David Brewer
(Sr., Columbus, OH) hit a 38 yard field goal to bring the Otterbein
lead to 31. The Cardinals rounded out their scoring with a 13
yard rushing touchdown by Brit Musal (So., Brunswick, OH) midway
through the fourth quarter.
Husson's longest drive of the game was also their first
drive for 6 plays and 65 yards.
Kyle Vanidestine(Jr., Bangor, ME) led the Eagle defense with 9
tackles in total, and 8 solo tackles. Mike Toothaker recorded
6 solo tackles on the loss.
Schlosser collected 204 passing yards and completed 14 of 23
passes for two touchdowns. Coy's 167 rushing yards on
27 carries continually moved the ball for the Cardinals.
The Eagles return to action when they play Springfield College
in a home contest on September 11. Kickoff is set for 1:00
PM.
