Box Score 2 Bangor, ME – The Husson University Eagles collected their
second sweep in as many days with 10-2 and 8-0 wins against the
University of Maine at Presque Isle. Dottie Cameron (Jr.,
South Plainfield, NJ) tallied seven RBI's on the day.
With the wins, the Eagles improve to 8-12 while the Owls fall to
3-15.
Husson scored the first run of the day when Courtney Hill (Fy.,
Calais, ME) stole third base and proceeded to reach home on a
throwing error. The Owls responded by tallying two runs
in the top of the second inning, beginning with an RBI to right
field by Carolynn Tuck (So., Brewer, ME). Desiree Smith (So.,
Rockland, ME) followed with an RBI.
Cameron's base-clearing double plated three Eagles in the
bottom of the fourth inning. After Cameron stole third, she
scored off an RBI double to left by Cassie Berry (Sr., Newcastle,
ME). The Eagles scored four runs in the fourth.
Husson tacked on two additional runs in the bottom of the sixth
beginning with an RBI single by Cameron. The game would end
when Hill scored on an error with a final score of 10-2 in six
innings of play.
Kara Porier (Fy., Berlin, NH) threw the complete game win,
improving to 2-0 on the season. UMPI's Nicole Russell
(Sr., Newcastle, ME) received the loss.
After two scoreless innings in the second game, the Eagles
exploded in the third inning. Cameron started the scoring
with a sacrifice fly to left field that plated Kristen Sousa (So.,
Detroit, ME). Amy Mortenson sent a double to left center to
tally two RBI's. The Eagles would end the third inning
with a 6-0 lead.
Cameron collected her seventh RBI of the day on a walk-off
double that plated Sousa and Stephanie Perry (Jr., Calais, ME) in
the bottom of the fifth inning. Game two would end in an 8-0
five inning victory for the Eagles.
Lainey Herring (Fy., Houlton, ME) was credited with the loss for
the Owls. Husson's Nicky Sargent (Jr., Sullivan, ME)
earned the shutout win, giving up just 2 hits in five innings of
work.
UMPI's Cassie Green (So., Truro, NS) went 2-5, followed by
Smith who hit 2-4 with one RBI. Cameron led the Eagles,
hitting 5-7, while scoring 2 runs and 7 RBI's. Hill
batted 4-5 and scored 3 runs and 2 RBI's.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, April 10 when they
travel to Lyndon State for their first conference
games.
