Box Score 2 Husson University faced Colby College at Husson's
O'Keefe field and recorded an 8-6 extra inning win in game
one. In the second game, the Eagles would fall to the Mules
1-0 behind the sharp pitching of Colby's Lauren Becker (Fy.,
Falls Church, VA). With the split, the Eagles move to 4-12
while the Mules post a 2-9 record.
Colby scored two first inning runs beginning with a run scored
by Barbara Santos (Jr., Topsfield, MA) off a passed ball.
Alex Essman (Jr., Littleton, MA) doubled to right field, gaining an
RBI. The Mules scored 2 runs in the third inning when
Alyssa Lepore (Jr., Victor, NY) doubled to left field. Colby
would tack on additional runs in the fifth and sixth innings to
bring the Mules' lead to 6-0.
The Eagles exploded in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring 6
runs on two outs. Cassie Berry (Sr., Newcastle, ME) doubled
to left, plating Dottie Cameron (Jr., South Plainfield, NJ) who had
reached by an error. Sarah Risser (So., Brewer, ME) hit
another double and tallied two RBI's. A single to left
by Bri Webster (So., Belfast, ME) plated Risser.
Husson and Colby would finish 7 innings tied at 6 apiece.
In the top of the 8th inning, Colby's Christine Gillespie
(Jr., North Andover, MA) hit a clutch two RBI double. Husson
answered in the bottom of the eighth inning when Kody Lyon (Fy.,
Dalton, NH) hit an RBI single. With the bases loaded, Lona
Sargent (Fy., Sullivan, ME) sent a sharply hit ball to the third to
plate Lyon, knotting the game at 8. Cassie Berry (Sr.,
Newcastle, ME) hit a sharp line drive to left field for the game
winning walk-off RBI hit, ending the game with a 9-8 Eagle
win.
Game two proved to be a pitcher's duel between Colby's
Lauren Becker and Husson's Kody Lyon (Fy., Dalton, NH) who held the
opposition to 2 and 3 hits respectively.
Colby would score the game's only run in the first inning when
Lepore hit an RBI single to right field, driving in Santos.
Husson's Megan Richardson tripled to right field but was thrown out
by the cannon shot of Jen Goldman (So., Cedar Grove, NJ) .
Colby's ace, Becker, would strikeout the side in the third inning
en route to 10 strikeouts on the day.
Husson will travel to Bates on April 6.
