Box Score 2 Bangor, ME – The Husson University Eagles won their
fourteenth straight game with a sweep of Castleton State College,
winning 6-0 and 6-1. Husson also honored the contributions
made by senior, Cassie Berry, on her senior day. With the
victories, Husson improves to 18-12 and 10-0 in the North Atlantic
Conference (NAC). The Spartans fall to 12-17 and 4-6 in the
NAC.
Dottie Cameron (Jr., South Planfield, NJ) led off the first
inning with a double to left field and was advanced to third by a
bunt single by Bri Webster (So., Belfast, ME). Cameron scored
off a wild pitch to end the first inning with a 1-0 Husson
lead. Husson added another run in the bottom of the second
inning when Megan Richard (Jr., Wilton, ME) was plated by Aimee
Mortensen (Fy., Biddeford, ME).
The Eagles tacked on three additional runs in the fifth inning,
starting with an RBI single down the left field line by Webster.
The fifth inning ended with a 5-0 Husson lead. Cameron
hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth to plate Mortensen
and reach the game's final score, 6-0.
Taylor Livey (Fy., Greenfield, ME) shouldered the loss for the
Spartans, pitching 6 innings, allowing 10 hits and striking out
4. Husson's Kody Lyon (Fy., Dalton, NH) collected the
shutout win, pitching 7 innings, striking out 8, and allowing
8 hits.
Castleton would reach the scoreboard in the top of the first
inning in game two when Shannon Jipner (So., Bristol, VT) hit an
RBI single to center field. Husson answered in the bottom of
the first with two runs. Nicole Sargent (Jr., Sullivan, ME)
and Megan Richard each collected RBIs, hitting sacrifice flies to
center.
Husson scored on two additional runs in the bottom of the second
off RBI singles by Sarah Risser (So., Brewer, ME) and
Webster. The Eagles would seal the score in the sixth inning
beginning with an RBI single by Risser. Cameron hit an RBI
single and was able to score due to a throwing error to reach a
score of 6-1.
Hilary Bemis (Sr., Crown Point, NY) received the loss, pitching
6 innings and allowing 8 hits. Sargent collected the complete
game win, pitching 7 innings, allowing 6 hits and striking out 2.
Castleton hosts Green Mountain on April 21 while Husson travels
to U. Maine At Farmington on April 20.
