Eagles Record Fifth Straight Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Husson University Eagles recorded their fifth consecutive sweep with 8-5 and 7-4 wins over the Univeristy of Maine at Farmington.  With the win, the Eagles improve to 14-12 and 6-0 in the conference while U. Maine at Farmington falls to 4-6 and 2-4 in the conference.

In the top of the first inning, Kaitlyn Bartlett (Fy., Chesterville, ME) gave the Beavers a 2-0 lead, hitting a two-run homerun to center field.  Husson would answer in the bottom of the second inning when Sarah Risser (So., Brewer, ME) singled down the right field line for an RBI.  Bri Webster (So., Belfast, ME) hit an RBI double to left-center field, plating Risser and tying the game at 2-2.  The Eagles would claim the lead when Courtney Hill (Fy., Calais, ME) pushed Webster across the plate with a slap single.

The Eagles tacked on two additional runs in the bottom of the fourth inning beginning with another Webster RBI double.  Webster scored off a sacrifice fly by Cassie Berry (Sr., Newcastle, ME) to end the inning with a 5-2 lead.  Husson would add another run in the fifth inning off a  Megan Richard (Jr., Wilton, ME) solo homerun.

The Beavers rallied with a three run sixth inning that began with bunt single for Jessica Timmreck (Jr., Brunswick, ME).    Kasey McPhail (Jr., Benton, ME) hit a blooper double which resulted in two RBI's.  The Beavers would end the top of the sixth inning trailing Husson 5-6.

A sixth inning RBI double to left center field by Berry pushed an Eagle run across the plate.  Kody Lyon (Fy., Dalton, NH) singled to left-center field to plate Berry.   U. Maine Farmington could not overcome the runs deficit and Husson recorded an 8-5 victory.

Husson's Nicole Sargent (Jr., Sullivan, ME) was credited with the win, pitching 5 innings, recording 4 strikeouts, and giving up 5 hits.  Timmereck shouldered the loss for U. Maine Farmington.

Game two began in much the same fashion as game one with another homerun by U. Maine Farmington's Bartlett.  Husson answered in the bottom of the third inning with a two RBI triple for Dottie Cameron (Jr., South Planfield, NJ).  Berry and Lona Sargent (Fy., Sullivan, ME) each collected RBI's.  The third inning would end with a 4-1 Husson lead.

The Eagles struck again in the fifth inning when Diann Ramsey (Jr., Otisfield, ME) homered to left field.  A two run sixth inning would feature an RBI double by Cameron.

U. Maine Farmington entered the top of the seventh inning trailing the Eagles by 6 runs with a score of 7-1.  In what would be an inning riddled with errors, U. Maine Farmington scored three unearned runs.  The game would end with a 7-4 Husson victory.

Husson's Kody Lyon received the win, pitching complete game 7 innings, striking out five and giving up 5 hits.  Whitney Page (Sr., Sorrento, ME) collected the loss.

The Beavers return to action on Saturday, April 17 when they face Johnson State.  Husson will host Green Mountain on April 17 at 1:00.
