Box Score 2 JOHNSON, Vt. (April 11, 2010) – Visiting Husson University took a pair of North Atlantic Conference (NAC) softball games from Johnson State College on Sunday by the scores of 9-1 and 21-2. Both games were completed in five innings per the eight-run rule. The Badgers drop to 3-7 overall and 0-4 in the NAC while Husson University improves to 12-12 overall and 4-0 in the NAC.
The Eagles were sparked by a five-run second inning that paced them to a 9-1 win in the first game of the set. Dottie Cameron (South Plainfield, N.J.) led the way for Husson with a 3-for-4 effort including two runs scored, an RBI, and a pair of stolen bases. Nicole Sargent (Sullivan, Maine) scored twice and had a 2-for-3 outing at the plate including a double to supplement the HU offense.
Megan Richard (Wilton, Maine) picked up the win allowing just five hits and one earned run while striking out two and walking three Badgers.
Johnson saw senior Ashley Allegrini (Greenwich, Conn.) go 2-for-2 and freshman Maria Lovelette (Berkshire, Vt.) have an RBI single driving in Emily Sullivan (Hollis, Maine). Freshman pitcher Meaghan Russ (Burlington, Vt.) took the loss for JSC allowing 11 hits and six earned runs while striking out three and walking three.
In the second game of the day Husson had a pair of eight run innings that led to a 21-2 win for the Eagles and doubleheader sweep. Husson pounded out 19 hits and received multiple hits from six different players, led by Brianna Webster (Belfast, Maine) who went 4-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored. Nicole Sargent (Sullivan, Maine) added to her fine game one with a 3-for-4 effort with three runs scored and three runs batted in. Lona Sargent (Sullivan, Maine) smacked a pair of doubles and was 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.
Kody Lyon (Dalton, N.H.) picked up the win for Husson allowing just two first-inning earned runs, scattering eight hits, and striking out seven.
Emily Sullivan (Hollis, Maine) had a 3-for-3 game for Johnson and scored a run while Ashley Allegrini (Greenwich, Conn.) went 2-for-2 with two runs batted in to pace the Johnson offense.
Julie Gervais (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) endured the loss for Johnson surrendering four walks and striking out one.
Husson will host the University of Maine-Farmington on Wednesday at 3:00 pm.
