Box Score BANGOR, ME – “I'm very pleased with what we
did,” said Husson University Women's Soccer Head Coach
Keith Bosley. “We tried to approach the game in a
business-like manner, and we took care of business
early.” That they did, and on a day where both teams
wore pink gear to recognize breast cancer awareness. Husson
sported bright pink socks during the game. With the 4-1 win,
the Eagles improve to 9-5 (4-1 NAC) while Green Mountain falls to
4-8-1 (2-3 NAC).
Husson took an early 2-0 lead, scoring goals in the
5th and 10th minutes. In the
5th minute, Megan Lajoie (SR, Van Buren, ME) dribbled
into the box, stopped, turned, and shot a rocket with her left foot
that bounced off of the far post and in. In the
10th minute, Rebecca Jones (FY, Newmarket, NH) received
a through pass from Michelle Manning (SR, Hampden, ME) and Green
Mountain's goalie over-played the pass and Jones tapped it by
her and in.
Husson took their 2-0 lead into halftime, and then scored again
in the 54th minute to make it 3-0, when Lajoie received
a pass from Caitlyn Butterfield (SR, Gorham, ME) on the sideline
and blasted it by Green Mountain's goalie for her second goal
of the contest.
Green Mountain started fighting back and managed to score a goal
in the 75th minute. Amanda Malkin (SR, Barrylakes,
NJ) took a shot that bounced off of the post and right to teammate
Sam Tajirian (SR, Springfield, PA) who placed it in the net.
Husson's Jones sealed the victory in the 86th
minute by scoring another goal, also her second for the game, to
make it 4-1. Husson dominated the shot count 27-6 and also
tallied 6 corner kicks to Green Mountain's 1.
Husson will play their next game tomorrow, October
17th, against Castleton State. Green Mountain will
play their next match against Maine Maritime Academy tomorrow as
well.
