Eagles Fall to U. Maine Farmington

Box Score

FARMINGTON, Maine -- The University of Maine at Farmington women's lacrosse team collected its first victory in the program's history with a 12-9 win over Husson University today at Prescott Field.

The Beavers upped their record to 1-4 with a home game against St. Joseph's College Tuesday, while the Eagles dropped to 3-4 with a game against Thomas College in Bangor Tuesday.

Farmington's first victory came in the Beavers' first home game and avenged a 15-5 loss to Husson on Tuesday in Bangor. Amie Daniels (Lewiston, ME), Kara Hudson (Wells, ME) and Lucy Sargent (York, ME) each notched a hat trick in the victory with Kaeleigh Barker (Chichester, NH), Marilyn Grabowski (Topsham, ME) and Ashley Wentworth (North Berwick, ME) each scoring a goal. Sargent and Corinne Vierkant (Stow, MA) each assisted on two goals, while Wentworth scooped 13 ground balls and caused four turnovers.

Andrea Knox (North Waterboro, ME) turned back 20 Husson shots to earn the win. The Eagles outshot the hosts 37-28 with 13 free-position attempts to the Beavers' five.

Shelby Bradford (Lee, ME) paced Husson with five goals with Jami Ladd (Berlin, VT) and Alex Huffman (Hampton, NH) each chipping in a pair of goals.

Stephanie Perry (Calais, ME) recorded seven saves for the Eagles.

Leading 5-4 in the first half, the Beavers scored twice in the final 2:20 of the opening half with Hudson cashing in a Sargent feed and Barker collecting an unassisted marker for a 7-4 edge at the break. Bradford scored to open the second half, but Farmington distanced itself with the game's next four goals -- two by Sargent -- for an 11-5 lead with 12:30 to play.

A Sargent goal with 10:29 left in the contest put the Beavers ahead 12-6, but the hosts had the ride out three goals by the Eagles in the final five minutes before celebrating the 12-9 victory.
