Bangor, ME - Nicole Sargent (So.
Sullivan, ME) powered the Husson University Eagles to a
North Atlantic Conference sweep over Thomas College. Sargent
pitched all seven innings of the first game, giving up one run on
four hits, one walk and two strikeouts. In the second game
Sargent hit a walk off homerun in the bottom of the seventh
inning. Husson would win the first game 2-1 and the second
game 8-7. The Eagles improve to 9-11 overall and 4-0 in the
NAC. The Terriers fall to 5-11 overall and 2-2 in the NAC.
In the first game, the Thomas Terriers started
off the day with a bunt single by Mallorie Blakney (So.
Fairfield, ME). Blakney moved to second on a
sacrifice bunt and to third on a pass ball. Morin would hit a
line-drive single into right field to score Blakney from third,
giving the Terriers a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the inning
Megan Bradstreet (So. Warren, ME) would rip a one
out triple to the right center gap. Bradstreet would end up
scoring on a wild pitch, evening the score at one after one inning
of play.
In the bottom of the third with the score still tied, Dottie
Cameron (So. South Plainfield, NJ) hit a
line-drive just out of the reach of the diving centerfielder.
Cameron would make it all the way to third. Cameron would
score on the next pitch as Bradstreet grounded out to second,
giving the Eagles a 2-1 lead. That would prove to be all
Sargent needed to pick up the win as she wouldn't give up another
run the rest of the game. Jordan Kennedy (Fy.
Detroit, ME) picked up the tough loss as she went six
innings giving up two runs on six hits, two walks and nine
strikeouts.
In the second game, the Eagles rallied in the
bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead. Cameron and
Bradstreet started off the inning with back to back singles.
Cameron would score on Bradstreet's single. Bradstreet would
end up scoring on a pass ball. Thomas would get back a run in
the top of the second on a RBI fielder's choice by Katie St. George
(Sr. Ware, MA) that scored Kaymala Eells
(So. Otisfield, ME) from third. The Eagles
would answer in the bottom of the inning when Rachel Voicechovski
(Fy. Jefferson, NJ) would hit a two out triple to
the right-center gap. Cameron would bat next and knock
Voicechovski in on a RBI single.
In the top of the third, Alexandra Kriegel (So. Winslow,
ME) would hit a RBI sacrifice fly to left to score
Brittany Morin (Sr. Winslow, ME). Eells
would then single home Clements on a bloop single to right field,
tying the game 3-3. The Terriers shut out the Eagles in the
bottom of the inning and came back scoring in the top of the
fourth. The Terriers would score two runs and take a 5-3 lead
on a two run RBI single by Clements.
In the bottom of the fifth, Bradstreet would rip another triple
to the right-center gap. Bradstreet would score on an infield
single by Cassie Berry (Jr. Newcastle, ME).
Husson would tie up the game on an RBI double by Sargent.
Sarah Risser (Fy. Brewer, ME) would then step to
the plate and crush a two-run homerun to dead center, giving the
Eagles a 7-5 lead going into the sixth.
In the top of the seventh with runners on second and third, with
two outs, Patrice Cianchette (Fy. Corinna, ME) hit
a single down the right field line to score both runners, tying the
game at 7-7. In the bottom of the seventh, with the game
still tied, Nicole Sargent would hit a walk off homerun just fair
of the left field foul pole.
