Husson Falls To Castleton

Box Score

Castleton, VT - Katie Hoxsie (Middlebury, VT) scored the game-winning
goal in the fourth minute of play, and freshman Ericka Davis (Cambridge,
VT) stopped nine shots on goal to lead Castleton State College to a 1-0
win over Husson University in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's
soccer action Sunday afternoon at Spartan Stadium.

Husson, the three-time defending conference champions, falls to 10-4
overall and 3-1 in NAC play, while Castleton improves to 7-5-1 overall
and a perfect 5-0 in conference action.

For the Spartans, it marked their seventh-consecutive victory, all by
way of the shutout. Castleton is un-scored upon in its last 643 minutes
and 32 seconds of play, and has yet to be scored upon in five games at
Spartan Stadium (4-0-1).

Hoxsie corralled a pass from Meghan Blongy (Rutland, VT), made a move
past a Husson defender and struck a low, bending line drive just inside
the far side post. Not only was Hoxsie's goal the decisive one, the
senior marking back also blanketed Shelby Bradford (Lee, ME) for the
entire contest. Bradford, Husson's leading scorer (nine goals, seven
assists) got off three shots in the contest, but could not connect.

Davis was superb under constant first-half pressure, making seven of
her nine saves over the opening 45 minutes of play. The freshman keeper,
made four saves in one-on-one situations to hold the Spartan lead.
Katelyn Cloutier (Groveton, NH) had a pair of opportunities, one that
Davis turned away with a one-handed stop and a second with a sprawling
save.

Husson appeared to score the equalizer in the 22nd minute as Megan
LaJoie (Van Buren, ME) slipped one past Davis. The goal was overturned
as the side judge had ruled a hand-ball infraction had occurred near
midfield prior to the attempt.

Jen Plourde (Howland, ME) stopped three shots in the loss.

Husson returns to action next Saturday when the Eagles play host to
Lyndon State College in NAC action at 1:00 pm. Castleton hits the road
for a mid-week non-conference affair at Plymouth State, kick-off
scheduled for 4:30 pm.
